A lone Pennsylvania GG1 crosses over to another track to avoid a parked steam locomotive on the same track. No exact date or location was given for this photo. The photo credit goes to "Bob's Photo." Description:
Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide by an unidentified photographer that was taken near Ivy City in the District of Columbia in September of 1964. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #4864, a GG-1 (2-C-C-2) electric built in Juniata during January of 1938 and rated at 4,620 horsepower. In this context, it's just departed Washington's Union Station with the northbound "Manhattan Limited." This shot also shows the relative ineffectiveness of the PRR's unmanned locomotive washing machines: good for flat sides, less so for curved surfaces. (Tchowee"; #14 of 27)

Yard shot from the LIRR
Description:
Dad rode the LIRR to work every day from our home in Little Neck, which gave him a good shot passing Sunnyside yard. If he saw something interesting-he was partial to GG 1s-hed grab a shot. Heres 4864 in the Scotchlite lettering waiting to back down onto a train. Check the cars in yard A-there's a DLW Phoebe Snow box car, a Pennsy 50 ft double door box, as well as IC and EL cars. Overhead is Queens Blvd; above it is the IRT Flushing Line, which was not yet designated the #7.
